Antitumor effect
Model:
In rats Sprague against Walker 256 intramuscular  tumor system (5WA16)
in vivo

Result, opinion:
The chloroform extract of Alnus oregona has antitumor activity against Walker 256 (5WA16) tumor system. Two components of the extract that are responsible for this activity have been identified - lupeol and betulin.

Model:
Activity against human nasopharyngeal epidermoid carcinoma in vitro

Result, opinion:
Antitumor activity of chloroform and aqueous extracts from the roots of Sarracenia flava against human epidermoid carcinomas of the nasopharynx (KB) was identified. It was found that one of the components that determine the antitumor activity is betulin. The results of studies relating to betulinic acid and its derivatives are demonstrated.

BED provides immune modeling effect on phagocytosis in intact animals as well as in mice on influenza pneumonia model. BED more actively enhances individual cell activity: the value of the FI and the FF in infected animals is almost 2 times higher than those in intact mice. Therefore , BED activates the main function of macrophages - phagocytosis.
The preceding analysis showed that the antimutagenic effect of naturally occurring compounds and their complexes practically does not exceed 50%. However, along with a positive antimutagenic effect, they often exhibit undesirable comutagenic action. BED is favorably unique in having effectiveness of antimutagenic action with no comutagenic effects. Its protective effect in a single preliminary administration in most cases is at least 60%.
According to the biochemical in vitro testing it can be assumed that the dry birch barkextract obtained by the original technology of “Birch World” Ltd. may have a sufficiently wide range of pharmacological effects and show antioxidant and adaptogenic properties.
